Cooking Matters Kentuckiana - An Overview

Welcome to Cooking Matters Kentuckiana! 

"Since 1993, the Cooking Matters campaign has been teaching parents and caregivers with limited food budgets to shop for and cook healthy meals – building a world where healthy eating choices are available for everyone." - Cooking Matters National, presented by Share Our Strength, in partnership with No Kid Hungry


This blog will be spotlighting all things Cooking Matters for Kentuckiana, presented by Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville, KY. We will be sharing information on our wonderful volunteers, staff, community partners, recipes, healthy tips and tricks, and much more!

Here are some Cooking Matters - Kentuckiana stats:

  • ~35-45 Cooking Matters classes are performed each year, with curricula geared for Adults, Parents, Teens, Kids, and Families
  • Cooking Matters has reached a total of 1,857 adult participants and 592 children since we began in 2012
  • Programming takes place at community centers, churches, schools, groceries, and many more Dare to Care partner sites - a total of 107 locations over the years
  • We have a 78% graduation rate (Graduation = participants attended 4 or more classes out of the 6-class series)
  • We have had the pleasure of working with over 100 volunteers through the years, filling roles such as Nutrition Instructor, Culinary Instructor, Classroom Assistant, Class Shopper/Packer and so much more!
